Pohaku Wai Ola

What's the meaning behind this exotic term?

Hot stones are the basis of this especially beautiful and relaxing treatment, in Hawaii called „Pohaku Wai Ola“. There, like in many other places around the world (e.g. in China, Tibet, Nepal and at the Indians in America), hot stones have already been used for a very long time in the relaxation of body, spirit and soul.

Pohaku Wai Ola can be seen as a kind of "enrichment" of the Lomi Lomi Nui with the element of preheated lava stones. "Pohaku" in Hawaiian means stone, "Wai" means water and "Ola" means life and health.

The particular meaning of the stones

Lava Stones

In the Hawaiian tradition stones are considered (animate) beings with great wisdom, since they are already very old. They can retain heat especially well and release it to the body in a very beneficial way. Therefore they are applied on the body and used directly for massaging. Stones are also one of the seven elements in the Kahi Loa treatment.

The treatment takes 60 or 90 minutes, following the client's wish.
